In this post I will ramble a bit about the recent happenings in the real world :D

The recent flooding of Mumbai brings us back to the same old issue that haunts most of the Indian cities - drainage problem. Hyderabad and Chennai have also been victims to these floodings in the recent times. The basic problem in Hyderabad is that it being an inland city, has no problem for sewage outlet (and Hussain Sagar is NOT an option!). Chennai being a rain starved city, has stopped any progress towards maintaining the system, let alone improve it. I guess the problem in Mumbai was a bit more than just a sewage problem. The amount of rain it received in a single day (93cms!) is unbelievable. It is just like a mini tsunami striking a city but only with more time to assess the situation. Insurance companies will have a tough time in the days to come. Already, the insurance claims have become the highest ever claimed in the past few years. Mumbai itself has starting losing sheen vis-a-vis a perception that it is an investor friendly and infrastructure strong city.

Sensex is going bonkers in the recent few weeks with the latest news being it has crossed 7800 mark today. I still remember the Black Monday when it did a bungee jump to below 6000. The positive run is, as usual, because of the ever increasing FIIs and also coz of a good overall global economy.

The market for software guys seems to be pretty good. A lot of people I know have changed their jobs for better. The average salaries for freshers from good colleges has definitely increased. The run for money has left many a company staggered by the fallout rate. Big companies are leveraging to capitalise on the upward job trend by their fame and power while smaller companies are in a situation where they have to shell out more money to hire a professional with the same competency level as a person in the position a couple of years ago.

A small note about my current status. The last one week has seen some staggering amounts of work being thrust upon us and has left us craving for sleep. A quiz and a presentation on the same day has but not become uncommon. Iam currently feeling a bit unhappy about myself as I am not able to keep pace with my targets. "Too much to do in too little time" is not an alien proverb anymore.
