Ramblings of an Insomniac

Snapshot of a day in IIML

It's 8.10AM and the alarm is shouting at the top of its voice. I get up
grudgingly, cursing the acads section that scheduled classes from
8.30AM. After finishing my daily chores, I quickly dress myself up
with whatever I can get my hands on. I check my watch. It's already
8.25AM. I make some quick calculations and find that I can still make
it to the class through the mess and start off to the mess. I have
half-a-minute breakfast, dumping whatever I can into my mouth,
fill a glass of tea and start off towards my classroom.

Three hours of teaching with a surprise quiz in one of the courses
marks the end of the day in the classroom. A good heavy lunch
followed by a quick nap and I am as fresh as a flower. I now have
look at the day ahead of me. I have to catch up in a few courses,
got to prepare for a case in one of the courses the next day, got
to do some pre class preparation in another, got to attend two
group meetings scheduled for later in the night, got to work on a
competition whose deadline is fast approaching, have to attend a
talk later in the evening, got to go to the gym, have a birthday
party to attend in the night, have to update my blog, etc. I have
to prioritize my work and also know that I have to account for
wastages of time in numerous other circumstances, which generally run into a few hours.

After finishing the work I had originally planned for the day,
I retire to my room. It being a relatively normal day, I am
happy to get back to my bed by 2AM.

Although I originally planned to write about my learnings, the snapshot above perhaps says better about them. Some of my major learnings, as I can think off the cuff, are - to prioritize work, raise the bar in terms of amount of work done in a day, reduce my non productive time (still have to work on it), improving my group skills, working smart, fast and productively.
